For the second straight year, Filipinos witnessed the brilliant colors of India as the Holi Festival was held at the Mall of Asia. A major Hindu festival, the Holi celebrates the Hindu story of Prahlada, a prince dedicated to the worship of Vishnu, and heralds the arrival of spring. The most famous aspect of the festival is the spraying of brightly colored powders, which symbolizes the colors of the season.
During the Holi, Indians also mingle with each other and forget about social codes, which are still prevalent in India. Here, the breaking of the social barriers extend to nationality, with the organizers repeating last year‘s mantra: “Today we are not Indians, we are not Filipinos. We are one!”
P.S. I didn’t want to risk getting colored powder into my DSLR so I used my phone all throughout.
Nice to see Holi being celebrated in the Philippines. It’s a fun festival, if there are no loko-loko in the crowd haha You should observe it in India someday. It’s really something else!
Medyo constrained ang Holi dito, so walang loko-loko. Hehe. Nonetheless, masaya pa rin. Sana nga makapunta ng India one day, hopefully kapag Holi.
