La Mesa Eco Park Prenup

Jang & Jo: Love Never Fails

I got my second engagement (prenuptial) photography gig, which I really didn’t expect. It was that sort of one thing that led to another, then to another. And there I was, one weekend in La Mesa Eco Park in Quezon City, with the couple-to-be, and some friends from Alliance Graduate School (AGS).

The bride-to-be, Jang, was a classmate in AGS of a friend, Sarah. I was asked to cover the school’s baccalaureate and graduation ceremony last month and in the process, Jang approached Sarah, who in turn asked me if I could also do their prenuptial photo shoot.

One thing I learned from our prenuptial shoot in Zambales last year is that a prenuptial shoot is a great way to practice photography. Genuine emotions are everywhere and you just have to be prepared to capture them. It’s also a great way to develop a photographer’s skills as it involves any combination of journalism, portrait, landscape/architecture and travel photography. But most importantly, in taking those pictures you are able to tell a story of two people who are very much in love with each other.

We had very little budget and planning, but with just Jang and Jo as characters and their dresses and things in the park as props, we managed to build scenes, making up themes as we go along. It helped that one of our companions works in a professional photo studio as a creative pose director and makeup artist, and she greatly helped in how the whole process should go. And when the narrative was laid down, it was easy putting the images in place to tie the whole thing together as a set.

Yeah, congratulations to the soon-to-be couple!
